Fig. 01 — Temple Hills, Laguna Beach, California
(a)
Perched in the hills above Laguna, this home was reworked room by room to hold the light and the water beyond it. Architectural rigor sets the frame; the furnishings soften it.
Interiors are layered in warm neutrals with blue-green punctuation — glazed tile in the kitchen, a navy bench in the sitting room, striped ticking on the loggia. Nothing shouts; everything is placed.
Outside, terraces, the pool garden, and a covered loggia extend the living space into the landscape, so the house is lived in from the terrace as often as the sofa.
